The Stage at Clementine

What We Book:

Country/Alt-Country, Indie-Folk Rock, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, Jazz-Fusion, Reggae, Indie-Rock, Blues and Some Weirdness - National, Regional and Good Local

Why We Book:

Quite simply, we book because we love. In the area of music, our goal is to provide the opportunity for patrons to hear and musicians to play great music.  Clementine is an extremely successful RESTAURANT and community space that also hosts music. Clementine loves and supports the musical arts. And just to prove it we have spent enormous amounts of time and money to provide an extremely nice (so we've been told) venue for artists and patrons to enjoy each others company. The technical specifications are without peer in the region for the size of the venue.

However, to love we must exist. To exist we must subsist. That means, at the very least, we can't lose money on booking your band.  We are not in the business of underwriting bands. We have no built in crowd to support your band, therefore, in order to book here you must be able to draw your own crowd. If you cannot guarantee a crowd, we cannot make any guaranteeto the band. Pay is based on draw. Bands are booked to bring patrons to Clementine to purchase food and beverages. That's how we pay our bills and that's how the people that work here pay theirs.

We provide extensive marketing for each and every band that we book. We are strong supporters of our public radio affiliates WMRA and WEMC, as well as WNRN and JMU student radio WXJM. We utilize our own email based news page. Our website has our full calendar. Band dates are posted on our face book site. A comprehensive monthly calendar/poster is prominently displayed in house as well as about town along with band posters. Similar card sized calendars are printed and distributed literally by the thousands. Table tents are also utilized. We do bi/weekly print ads in JMU's student newspaper The Breeze when they are in session.

We expect bands to do something to promote themselves. If you already have a date booked, please send us anything we can use to help promote the event here at the club: posters, flyers, weblinks, CDs, photos, etc. While we will do our best, as noted above, promotion is ultimately the responsibility of the performer and/or the performer's promotional team. Click here for an extensive list of local contacts to use in promoting your event. At minimum provide us with printed posters two weeks prior- NOT material from an EPK that requires us to download and print. Failure to do so is a guaranteed never get booked again.

When We Book

We are currently booking only Thursday, Friday and Saturday unless you have a known marquee draw and/or are willing to work on very favorable terms. We do not need and cannot take the risk of booking off days. Our entire calendar is available below. Please review it and save us both the time involved in saying sorry, that date is booked. Dates on hold are not revealed but can be resolved within a day or two. Please do your homework, save us all some time.

We will get back to you if and when we have something available that will suit. Response times vary, depending on busy-ness. Please be patient.

We have never booked a band from a mailed, physical press kit. Please don't drop off or mail a CD or press kit. We rarely have time to check them out. It is far easier to send us your website/myspace/epk link, so just do that.

Please do not come to Clementine in person to discuss booking without having an appointment. We are busy and it is too much of an inconvenience. Please use the form. Thank you.

Please send an email to booking@clementinecafe.com
