Debbie David & Josh Paxton

The daughter of two opera singers, Debbie Davis never had a chance. She was born a singer. Making her first professional singing appearance at the age of two, her childhood was peppered with performances in opera and musical theater. As a young adult she was on track for a career as an actress, singer and dancer when a knee injury diverted her energies toward singing exclusively. She became well known in her native New Jersey as a rock and roll singer in several bands, dabbling in jazz standards when opportunity allowed.

The Shack Band (21+)

What originally started as an organic, impromptu and free-flowing collection of musicians casually performing in the renovated remains of a dilapidated “shack” in Blacksburg, VA has morphed into what is now The Shack Band. Since 2010, things have changed. The band relocated from Blacksburg to Richmond, VA. A true lineup was established, with four members signing on. The songwriting abilities and sensibilities matured and improved. At the start of 2013, the quartet became a quintet with the addition of a horn player adding more complex arrangements and texture to the band’s already well-established sound. But, the one thing that never wavered was The Shack Band’s intent to wow new crowds with their off-the-cuff, high-energy live shows melding funky rock ‘n’ roll and soaring harmonies with a strong emphasis on song-writing.

Cocaine Mortgage: Homecoming Dance Party

In 2009 & 2010, with the flick of a wrist and the pump of a fist, oddball DJ duo Cocaine Mortgage took the Harrisonburg, VA scene by storm. From raging house parties to sold out club shows, CoMo became an attraction for all types of music-lovers and dance party enthusiasts in the region. Their live instrumentation and eclectic melding of indie rock, new wave, house, hip hop, bizarre odds-and-ends, and off-the-wall samples kept crowds wanting more. As graduates of JMU's Class of 2010, the members of CoMo respectively relocated to Chicago and Portland, OR to pursue music-related ventures. The duo has since returned three times to downtown Harrisonburg and twice to Chicago for special sold-out reunion shows, and this show marks the next installment of these can't-miss events.

A Brooklyn resident hailing from Virginia, Allison Kinney got her start in the music business by majoring in classical singing and hosting several local radio shows at James Madison University. She grew up with diverse musical taste, particularly influenced by her parents'recording studio Ravensworth Studios, resulting in one of her greatest assets: knowing how to fuse multiple genres into one performance to please all audiences. During her years as a one-woman DJ and emcee, she has had high-energy performances everywhere from Las Vegas to The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The Knot has consistently featured her at their annual gala hosted at the New York Public Library, and she has held multiple popular club residencies in NYC. She has been featured at high-profile venues such as Best Buy Theater, Brooklyn Bowl, Soho House, the W Hotel, and many more. Allison has also worked with NBC and the Today Show for several events, including at the X Factor premiere party. Allison has had the opportunity to open for several national touring artists, including Grammy-winner Ciara, Grammy-nominee Audien, The Chainsmokers, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Armin Van Buuren, indie dance duo The Knocks, and more.

Bobby Thompson & Revelator Hill feat. Ron Holloway

• Bobby Thomas & Revelator Hill •

Awe-inspiring master guitarist and vocalist Bobby Thompson is no stranger to the blues and rock world. He cut his teeth learning to play in the old blues clubs of D.C. from the likes of Bobby Parker. After honing his craft as a much sought after support man, Thompson decided to step out as a solo artist, releasing three albums since 2011. A recent review from Roots Music Report claims Thompson’s songs portray "muscular blues- and soul-rock strong on soulful vocals and cut-above-the-norm originals." With his smooth, gripping vocal stylings and his perfect musical taste on anything with a string, Thompson is what’s referred to as a “musician’s musician. Considered a “must see” act of the Northeast region, Bobby was nominated for the D.C area Musician of the Year award in 2015.

• Ron Holloway •

Ron Holloway is one of the busiest tenor saxophonists on today's music scene in any genre! Recently, Ron toured extensively with The Warren Haynes Band, in support of two critically acclaimed releases on the Stax Records label. Holloway is a frequent guest of Gov't Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band and The Allman Brothers Band. Over the years, he has been a member of an eclectic roster of groups, including; the Susan Tedeschi Band, the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet, Gil Scott-Heron and Root Boy Slim. Ron is currently a member of The Warren Haynes Band and leads his own band.

Donna the Buffalo

Donna the Buffalo just passed the marker as their 25th year as a band and have proven to be a consistent purveyor of American music. What’s the recipe? To be sure, it’s infused with more spices than you’ll find at a Cajun cookout by way of a southern-fried, rockin’ country old-time jamboree. “For the dizzying array of styles and genres with which they work, Donna The Buffalo maintain a surprising level of consistency. The New York-based band has played around with folk, zydeco, and many other musical ideas over the course of their 25-year career, but they retain a sharp focus that has helped them create some truly lasting music,” writes Elmore Magazine.

The Last Bison with Strong Water

The Last Bison
Ben Hardesty's (vocals and guitar) songwriting bears sonic resemblance to groups such as Fleet Foxes, Mumford and Sons and The Decemberists. Folkhive stated "Dare I say that The Last Bison is to folk what Arcade Fire is to indie rock? Boasting 7 members and a sound seemingly born on the tree covered mountain tops of Virginia The Last Bison lays down expansive and yet imminently listenable folk with an original feel I’ve not experienced in quite some time." The band incorporates traditional folk instruments with a reed organ, percussion and classical strings.

Strong Water
Born out of the vibrant college community that is Harrisonburg, Virginia, Strong Water is an energetic, dance-all-night, up and coming Folk/Americana band. What originally started as a duo, swelled to be a six piece before settling on it's now-three dedicated members whose performance is built on strong Male and Female lead vocals supported by harmonies, driving Acoustic/Electric Guitar or the occasional Banjo, well crafted melodic Fiddle lines, and rounded out by tasteful Drums/Percussion, as well as an Upright or Bass Guitar depending on the show. Strong Water's eclectic collection of original songs and a handful of covers range from Bluegrass & Blues, to their personal spin on the Americana and Folk-Rock genres, incorporating sounds and styles from influences such as Noah Gundersen, Mumford and Sons, and The Lumineers.

David Wax Museum

The roots of David Wax Museum stretch back nearly a decade, and all the way from New England to Mexico. As a student at Harvard, Wax began traveling south of the border to study and immerse himself in the country's traditional music and culture. Back in Boston, he met fiddler/singer Suz Slezak, whose love of traditional American and Irish folk music fused with Wax's Mexo-Americana into a singular, energetic blend that captivated audiences and critics alike. Their 2010 breakout performance at the Newport Folk Festival made them the most talked-about band of the weekend, with NPR hailing them as "pure, irresistible joy."
