The Barons

The Barons
Fighting night in and night out singing, shouting, dancing, shaking, expressing what unifies you as a human and relating this to those who seek it, this is rock n' roll. Virginia-based rock band The Barons embody this notion in everything they represent.

Town Mountain

Town Mountain
“While it remains a bluegrass band in all things instrumentation and touring the bluegrass and festival circuit, its sound crosses into American roots and even outlaw country, perhaps as a result of the gritty, mournful tone of Greer’s vocals. It is reminiscent of the 1970s truck-driving film sound, the perfect accompaniment to a car chase through the south á la ‘Smokey and the Bandit.’”

The Nighthawks with Rev. Billy C. Wirtz

The Nighthawks
Mark Wenner: Vocals, Harmonica
Johnny Castle: Vocals, Bass
Paul Bell: Guitar
Mark Stutso: Drums, Vocals

When Mark Stutso, master of the deep groove, joined The Nighthawks at the beginning of 2010, the21st-century version of the legendary American roots band was complete. With Paul Bell and Johnny Castle in the band for nearly a decade, and founding father Mark Wenner the remaining original, this team outshines all previous incarnations.

The Nighthawks was an idea in Mark Wenner's brain long before he was able to implement it. The musical product of pre-1958 radio in Washington, D.C., he did not know there were rules against mixing blues, R&B, honky-tonk country, doo-wop, gospel and rockabilly into one delicious stew.

Rev. Billy C. Wirtz
Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is a comic genius, gifted pianist and American musicologist who defies easy classification. “I like to think of myself as the Victor Borge of the blues,” states the Reverend, but Billy goes way beyond Borge both in scope of subject matter (from politics to social commentary) and, of course, in taste. In fact, no theme is too extreme, taboo, or undignified for the Reverend, so long as it garners a good laugh.

Chris Knight ( Solo)

Chris Knight doesn’t like to say much. Won’t chat about his worldview or engage in conversations on his creative approach. For 15 years, 7 acclaimed albums and a hard-nosed career that’s been hailed as “where Cormac McCarthy meets Copperhead Road”, Knight has always let his music do most of the talking. And on record – as well everywhere across America, from roadhouse taverns to major-city concert halls – his songs have had plenty to say. But with his new album Little Victories, Chris Knight has taken the discussion to a whole new level.

An Evening with James McMurtry (Solo) (Seated Show)

** Please note this is a limited capacity, seated show. **

James McMurtry
Never one to rest on his laurels, James McMurtry continues to tour constantly, and consistently puts on a "must-see" powerhouse performance. 'The Washington Post' noted McMurtry's live prowess: "Much attention is paid to James McMurtry's lyrics, and rightfully so: He creates a novel's worth of emotion and experience in four minutes of blisteringly stark couplets. What gets overlooked, however, is that he's an accomplished rock guitar player. At a sold-out Birchmere, the Austin-based artist was joined by drummer Daren Hess and bassist Ronnie Johnson in a set that demonstrated the raw power of wince-inducing imagery propelled by electric guitar. It was serious stuff, imparted by a singularly serious band."

Kendall Street Company with Madly Backwards

Kendall Street Company
The band performs regularly in Virginia and throughout the East Coast, maintaining a central presence in the Charlottesville area, which includes live radio performances on WTJU 91.1 and WNRN 91.9 and a debut EP recorded at Blue Sprocket Sound in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While Kendall Street Company's music is influenced by a variety of musicians and styles, the group has been described as "psychedelic," "alternative," "jammy," "rock," "indie," and "ska." It is not uncommon for guest performers to join the group on stage for extended jams.

Madly Backwards
Madly Backwards is a rock n’ roll band from Harrisonburg, VA. Formed in 2013, they are currently comprised of Eric Sites on guitar and vocals, Neil Forde on guitar, Nick Wilson on bass guitar, and Jamie Infantino on drums. Their music combines the grit of blues, the energy of funk, and the sonic experimentation of psychedelic on top of a rock foundation. They draw on everything from the alt-rock of The Black Keys to the heaviness of Black Sabbath and then add a willingness to jam reminiscent of the Allman Brothers Band to create a distinct yet classic sound.

Bobby Thompson & Revelator Hill with Jon Spear Band

Bobby Thompson & Revelator Hill
Awe-inspiring master guitarist and vocalist Bobby Thompson is no stranger to the blues and rock world. He cut his teeth learning to play in the old blues clubs of D.C. from the likes of Bobby Parker. After honing his craft as a much sought after support man, Thompson decided to step out as a solo artist, releasing three albums since 2011. A recent review from Roots Music Report claims Thompson’s songs portray "muscular blues- and soul-rock strong on soulful vocals and cut-above-the-norm originals." With his smooth, gripping vocal stylings and his perfect musical taste on anything with a string, Thompson is what’s referred to as a “musician’s musician. Considered a “must see” act of the Northeast region, Bobby was nominated for the D.C area Musician of the Year award in 2015.

Jon Spear Band
Nominated by Blues Blast Magazine for the prestigious Best Live Blues Recording of 2016 award, the Jon Spear Band is a collaboration of some of Central Virginia's finest and most dedicated blues musicians. The release of their 2nd CD caps off a year of increasing success which saw the band receive extensive airplay, numerous favorable reviews, and opportunities to appear with several major artists, while their first CD “Old Soul” captured the #35 spot on the Roots Music Report's Top Contemporary Blues Album Chart for 2015. Although their ages span several generations, the band's members share a common determination to use their exceptional talents to create unique and memorable music. Members include Dara James (guitar, vocals and harmonica), Andy Burdetsky (bass), John Stubblefield (drums), and Jon Spear (guitar and vocals).
